The sheer calculation of my family settled over the room like winter frost.

They had stripped this woman of her life, her money, and her dignity to fund their own lifestyle.

“They are on a cruise right now,” I said.

Margaret looked back at me, her brow furrowing.

“A cruise?”

“Yes,” I said. “In the Caribbean. They used your credit line to secure the balcony suites.”

Claire leaned against the wall, her thumb tapping her phone screen with rapid precision.

“They’re on the *Ocean Star*,” Claire said. “It docks in Miami in forty-eight hours.”

“Is that enough time?” I asked Claire.

“More than enough,” Claire replied. “The federal prosecutor is already coordinating with the port authority.”

“Once they touch US soil, the marshals will be waiting at the gangway.”

I turned back to Margaret and took her hand.

“We are going to get you out of here,” I said. “Today.”

“Where will I go?” she asked, a flicker of panic in her voice.

“You’re coming with me,” I said. “To my house.”

“We have a guest room on the first floor. It looks out at the maple tree in the yard.”
