“My mother just admitted they’re keeping my grandmother, Margaret Mitchell, in an unlicensed facility in Ocala.”

“Margaret?” Claire asked.

“Rachel, your grandmother’s death certificate was filed in the county registry five years ago.”

“I saw the record myself.”

“It’s fake,” I said.

“They forged it to keep her pension active.”

“They’re routing the money to a private account,” I added.

“And they’ve been using my forged signature to access my military allowances to pay for the rest of it.”

“Oh, my God,” Claire breathed.

“If they’re doing that, they’re committing federal benefits fraud on a massive scale.”

“I need you to find that facility,” I said.

“Look for unlicensed elder care homes in Marion County or Ocala.”

“See if there are any utility bills or property records tied to my father’s dummy corporations.”

“I’m on it,” Claire said.

“But Rachel, you have MPs on the way up.”

“You need to protect yourself.”

“I’ll handle them,” I said.

“Just find my grandmother.”

I hung up the phone and stood up from the bed.

A sharp pain shot through my abdomen.
