Preston did not look at her.
“She’s lying, Preston,” Samantha cried, grabbing his arm. “Tell them she’s lying!”
Preston shoved her hand away.
“Get away from me, Samantha,” he said coldly.
“You were always a liability.”
Samantha stumbled backward, hitting the arm of the sofa.
Her expensive handbag fell to the floor, spilling lipstick, credit cards, and cash across the rug.
She began to sob, her hands covering her face.
“We have also served a seizure warrant on your penthouse, Ms. Mercer,” Agent Miller said.
“All accounts associated with Mercer Holdings have been frozen by federal order.”
“You have no access to those funds.”
“I have nothing,” Samantha whispered, looking down at her spilled belongings.
“I don’t even have money for a cab.”
“You won’t need a cab,” Agent Miller said.
He turned to the two agents behind him.
“Take Ms. Mercer into custody,” he said.
One of the agents walked over to Samantha and pulled her arms behind her back.
The click of the handcuffs was loud in the quiet lounge.
