“The hotel manager confirmed the itinerary,” I said. “He printed the tickets in the business lounge.”
“This changes everything,” Marcus said, his voice sharpening. “We have the wire transfers flagged for sixty minutes.”
“Can we stop the plane?” I asked.
“We cannot stop a private aircraft on a civil claim,” Marcus said. “But we can if there is a federal warrant.”
“Can you get one in an hour?” I asked.
“If he is transporting stolen corporate assets, yes,” Marcus said. “The wire transfers constitute wire fraud and grand larceny.”
“Thomas flagged the transactions,” I said. “They are held for manual review until two-thirty.”
“That is our window,” Marcus said. “I am calling the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District.”
“Will they act on this?” I asked.
“They have been investigating Preston’s offshore shell companies for three months, Claire,” Marcus said. “This is the final piece they need.”
“What do I do?” I asked.
“Go to the office,” Marcus said. “I am drafting an emergency petition to freeze all his personal and corporate accounts.”
