I could not let him steal my daughter’s future.
Mia was seventeen, planning for college, and this company was supposed to be her inheritance.
I dialed Daniel Price.
Daniel was the general manager of the Plaza Hotel, where Preston and Samantha had been staying in the penthouse suite.
He had become my eyes and ears inside the building.
“Claire,” Daniel said, his voice low and professional.
“Daniel, are they back at the hotel?” I asked.
“Yes,” Daniel replied. “They arrived about ten minutes ago.”
“How did they look?”
“Frantic,” Daniel said. “My lobby staff said they didn’t even acknowledge the doorman.”
“Are they packing?” I asked.
“I have a bellhop on the floor,” Daniel said. “He reports hearing shouting from inside the suite.”
“Preston is moving money,” I said. “Millions of dollars. He is trying to liquidate everything.”
“I figured as much,” Daniel said. “Samantha’s assistant called down to the front desk asking about immediate courier services.”
“To deliver physical documents?” I asked.
“Yes,” Daniel said. “And to coordinate with a notary.”
