Arthur’s armored SUV was parked in the center of the bay, its headlights flashing once as Arthur pressed his key fob.

His driver, Victor, was waiting by the door.

“Sir,” Victor said as we approached, his hand resting near his lapel.

“We have a problem. The security feeds for the street level just went dark.”

Arthur stopped, his grip tightening on my arm.

“All of them?”

“Yes, sir,” Victor said. “And there is an unmarked black van parked across the exit ramp.”

“We do not have time to wait,” Arthur said.

“We force our way through. Get us to the highway.”

Victor nodded and opened the rear door.

Arthur guided me inside first.

I slid across the cold leather seat, my chest tight.

Arthur climbed in after me, pulling the heavy, reinforced door shut.

The interior was silent, the thick glass muffling the sound of the powerful engine starting.

“Hold on,” Arthur said.

He reached over and buckled my seatbelt for me, his fingers brushing my shoulder.

His hands were steady, but his face was set in hard, sharp lines.

“What is going to happen?” I asked.
