“Six?” I shook my head. “The guest list was finalized weeks ago. My boss approves every single addition.”

“Then bypass your boss,” Arthur said.

His voice was flat, leaving no room for argument.

“If I do that, and they audit the list, I lose my job,” I said. “I lose my career.”

“If you do not do it, you will not have a career to worry about,” Arthur said.

He leaned forward, placing his elbows on the desk.

“Tristan is using the Dupont family’s shipping connections to move something valuable,” Arthur said.

“What does that have to do with me?” I asked.

“He is using your PR firm’s charity gala as the cover,” Arthur said. “He and Khloe are hosting an auction. They are donating pieces from the Dupont private collection.”

“Yes,” I said. “It is a high-profile donation. It is the centerpiece of the evening.”

“It is a laundry machine,” Arthur said.

I stared at him, my heart hammering against my ribs.

“The art is fake, Kate,” Arthur said. “The money that will buy it is mine. It is the cash Tristan stole from my syndicate.”
