Margaret walked over to the table and picked up a pen.

“We need your signature on the final trust restructuring documents,” she said. “This will place the entire corporate voting block in your name as sole guardian of the children.”

I took the pen from her hand.

My hand did not shake.

I signed my name on the designated line at the bottom of the page.

The ink was black and dry.

“It is done,” Margaret said, taking the document and placing it back in her briefcase. “The Holloway Empire belongs to your children now.”

I walked over to the bassinets and reached inside.

I gently touched my daughter’s tiny hand.

Her fingers curled around my index finger, holding on tight.

The room was warm, and the monitors kept their steady, peaceful rhythm.

The storm outside continued to beat against the glass, but inside, the air was still.

We were safe.
