My phone vibrated in my lap.

It was a text from Margaret.

*The board has voted. Grant is out. Security escorted him from the building.*

I stared at the screen.

It was over.

The man who had abandoned me in my hospital bed was gone.

I looked at my children.

We had a long road ahead of us.

Their health was still fragile.

But we had the resources we needed.

Just then, the door to the private room opened.

A nurse walked in quickly.

Her face was pale.

“Mrs. Holloway?” she said.

“Yes?” I asked.

“There is a man downstairs at the main security desk,” she said.

“He says he is your brother-in-law, Arthur.”

“He says he has something you need to see immediately.”

“He says it is about Grant.”

My phone buzzed again.

It was an incoming call from an unknown number.

The screen lit up in the dim light of the nursery.

I pressed the green button on the screen and held the phone to my ear.

The line crackled with static before a voice came through.

“You think you won, don’t you?”
