I clenched my fists in my lap until my fingernails bit into my palms.

Margaret stood up.

“Your Honor, Mr. Holloway is not trying to protect his children.”

“He is trying to kidnap them to secure control of the Holloway Family Trust.”

“That is a lie,” Grant snapped.

“Sit down, Mr. Holloway,” the judge warned.

Margaret opened her briefcase and pulled out a stack of financial documents.

“We have evidence that Mr. Holloway’s corporate accounts are frozen.”

“His creditors are circling.”

“The only asset he has left is the trust fund tied to these children.”

Grant’s lawyer stood up. “This is speculation, Your Honor.”

“It is not speculation,” Margaret said.

She turned her head slowly toward the defense table.

“And we have a witness who can prove it.”

“I call Vanessa Albright to the stand.”

Grant stiffened.

He whispered something harsh in Vanessa’s ear.

Vanessa looked up, her face pale.

She looked at Grant, then she looked at Margaret.

Margaret held up a blue folder.

It was the folder containing the bank records we had secured earlier.

Vanessa knew exactly what was in that folder.
