It went on to say that I was currently being held under involuntary psychiatric observation due to violent behavior.

“They are saying I am unfit,” I said, the words catching in my throat. “They are saying I tried to hurt my babies.”

“It is a targeted leak,” Margaret said.

She stood up and walked to the window, looking out at the rainy street below.

“Grant is trying to bypass the grandfather’s clause,” she continued.

“If he can prove you are legally incompetent, the trust administration defaults entirely to him.”

“But it is not true,” I said, my voice rising.

“I know it is not true,” Margaret said.

The heart monitor began to beep faster, a high-pitched panic filling the small space.

A nurse walked in, her eyes wide with concern as she looked at the machine.

“Is everything all right in here?” she asked, her hand moving toward my IV stand.

“We need a moment, please,” Margaret told her, her voice firm and unyielding.

The nurse hesitated, looked at the tablet in my hands, and then stepped back out, closing the door behind her.
