“The floor is secure, boss,” Leo said, his voice flat.
“Clear the rest of the building,” Dante commanded.
Leo nodded once and vanished back into the dark corridor.
On the desk, Vanessa’s phone continued to vibrate against the wood.
The blue screen flashed with Marcus’s name, casting long, shaky shadows across the room.
Dante walked over to the desk and picked up the device.
He swiped the screen and pressed the speaker button.
“Vanessa?” Marcus’s voice sounded thin, frantic, and breathless.
“She is currently unavailable,” Dante said.
A heavy silence fell over the line, filled only by the crackle of static.
“Russo,” Marcus whispered.
“I told you what would happen if you touched her again,” Dante said.
“Listen to me,” Marcus said, his voice rising in panic. “We can make a deal. I have assets. I have the offshore keys.”
“You had them,” Dante corrected.
Dante reached out and tapped the keyboard of Vanessa’s computer.
The screen flickered, reflecting in his cold, dark eyes.
“Vanessa,” Dante said, not looking at her. “The authorization code for the Meridian account.”
