Marcus looked from the gun to Evelyn, who was bleeding from a cut on her temple.
“Alessia, put the gun down,” Marcus said, raising his hands slowly. “You don’t know what you’re doing.”
“I know exactly what you’re doing,” I said. “Ten million dollars.”
Marcus’s eyes widened, a flicker of fear crossing his face.
“You heard us,” Evelyn muttered.
“Every word,” I said. “The policy, the fake accident, Vanessa’s forged papers.”
Marcus took a cautious step forward, his hands still raised. “Alessia, listen to me. We can work this out. We can share the money.”
“You tried to kill me,” I said, my voice trembling with rage. “You tried to kill my baby.”
“The baby?” Marcus sneered, his tone suddenly shifting when he realized his lies wouldn’t work. “That bastard’s child? Dante Russo’s?”
“It’s mine,” I said. “And you will never touch us.”
Suddenly, the building rumbled.
A loud crash echoed from the upper floor, followed by the sound of splintering wood and shattered glass.
Shouts echoed through the warehouse above us.
“What was that?” Evelyn gasped, looking up at the ceiling.
Marcus’s face drained of color.
