“Furthermore,” Daniel said, pointing to the signatures at the bottom of the invoices, “every single payment to Apex was personally authorized by Dr. James Hendricks, bypassing the standard three-bid purchasing protocol.”
James stared at the screen, his fingers twitching against his thighs.
“These documents are fabricated,” James said, turning to Dr. Sterling. “This is a personal vendetta by a disgruntled employee and an emotional donor who is grieving his late wife.”
“The files came directly from the secure server of the Chief Nursing Officer,” I said. “The digital signatures are verified. They cannot be fabricated.”
Mark took a step toward me, his face twisted in anger.
“Victoria, you have no idea what you’re doing,” Mark said. “You’re ruining this hospital’s reputation over a personal grudge.”

Dr. Sterling looked down at the documents in front of him, his face pale.
He took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes.
